Our Story
Most good stories start with a frustration—an inciting action that sets a whole chain of events in motion—and ours is no different. Our mission to make overseas hiring easy comes from experiencing firsthand all of the things that typically make it a pain.
It all started with a problem many founders can relate to...
Our founder, Marie-Pier (MPH), is also the founder of an on-demand childcare service, Kiid. It is an extremely operations-heavy business, and Marie-Pier felt like she was constantly putting out fires, spending most of her time working in the business rather than on it. Not an ideal situation for any founder—but one that many are probably familiar with.
At the same time, she was also trying to juggle the life of a founder with that of a mother. With only one operations coordinator and limited budget to add to the team, Marie-Pier found herself at a loss for what to do…
Enter overseas hiring.
After some research, Marie-Pier determined that overseas hiring could be the solution to her problems—and that specifically, a team based in Morocco would be ideal for her needs because the country is bilingual (EN/FR), and the cost-of-living difference meant that she could afford to hire a talented team even with her limited budget.
It all seemed perfect! But...
Ugh, there’s always a “but,” isn’t there?
What Marie-Pier didn’t expect was how difficult overseas hiring would be. She found herself faced with all sorts of challenges ranging from poor internet connection to communication challenges to complicated payment problems and beyond.
Difficult communication
Bad internet connection
Culture
Gap
Complicated Payments
Despite these challenges, Marie-Pier wasn’t quite ready to throw in the towel. Instead, she resolved to find a way to overcome these challenges and build processes that could solve for them.
After a bit of experimentation, Marie-Pier was able to build processes that made working with a coordinator she hired in Morocco feel just like working with a local one. Over time, she grew the team in Morocco to five coordinators and wrote a playbook on how to recruit, train and onboard international team members.
Fast-forward to 2022...
After seeing tons of businesses struggle with hiring in light of a volatile economy and shifting workforce, Marie-Pier had the idea to take her playbook and use it to help other businesses find success working with overseas talent. And here we are—look at us now!
